Wonderful Clergy Titles

False Apostles and Clergy TITLES

Let me NOT... accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering TITLES unto man
-Job 32:21
2 Corinthians 11:13 - For SUCH are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming THEMSELVES into the apostles of Christ.

Across the Christian landscape there are smiling millionaire preachers and healers, church purpose promoters, very IMPRESSIVE buildings/ campus's/ and architecture, stadium events, womens conferences for dynamic women of God, worship conference extravaganzas, church leadership conferences, Christian wealth and blessing conferences, Holy Spirit conferences where you can get fire and thunder from God, live-satellite feed Christian conferences, Christian celebrities, Christian presidents, Christian entertainers, Christian recording artists, Christian businessmen and women, Christian book/gift/ and music stores, Christian TV networks and programming, and...

You get the picture, it is obvious we may have the best religion money can buy!   From Christian TV to the Sunday morning church services, to the conventions the marketing and promotion are inescapable.

You could spend a life going from one conference to another, listening to cd's, DVD's, and seminar recordings as you drive, and fill yourself on all the wonderful material sold.  What about if they have "Bishop", Apostle", "Prophet" or "Dr." attached to their name?

We smile and nod heads because it felt good as we got fleeced in the process. The handsome ministers seem so nice and want God's best life for us, right?   And for a few bucks to a few thousand, some of them will be glad to bring a message to the church or stadium, or better yet, make you a "PARTNER" in  ministry.

After a quarter century around Christianity we have been well-sheared by more than one of what the Bible warned us of...   The system conditions us to drop our guard, reason away discernment, and most of all ignore what the New Testament scriptures repeatedly warned us of:

Matthew 7:15 - Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Matthew 24:11 - And
many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mark 13:5 -
And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
Matthew 24:24 - For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

"False Christs" means "false anointed ones", i.e. those who claim unscriptual anointings and gifts.
Jesus was not being harsh or judgmental. He was warning us.

Luke 6:26 - Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you!  for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
(showing the popularity of the false workers...)
Luke 21:8 - And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for
many shall come in my name, saying, I (Jesus) am Christ
Acts 20:29 - For I know this, that after my departing shall
grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

Romans 16:18 - For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and
by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Galatians 2:4 -
And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:  (unto themselves)

( FALSE brethren bringing God's people into BONDAGES, such as tithing, church rules, and tradition)

Ephesians 4:14 - That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

2 Peter 2:1 - But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying (contradicting) the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 Timothy 3:13 - But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse,
deceiving, and being deceived
2 Thessalonians 2:3
- Let no man deceive you by any means:

Titus 1:10 -
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
1 John 4:1
- Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Revelation 2:2 - I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil
: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

Liars teach lies.
Some lies seem true, such as twisting scripture for gain), some lies may contain a truth wrapped in a lie, such as teaching tithing. It WAS true in the Old Covenant, but was never given to Christians.

The word "apostle" literally means "one sent forth," and they are sent to raise up churches and set them in order.  The apostles are given a portion of the gift of the rest of the five fold ministry so they can discern the elders that they are called to ordain (Acts 14:23).

Elders are ordained five fold ministers, not assistants or helpers to the pastor (Acts 20:17, 11:30).
Even apostles are elders (1 Peter 5:1 - The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder;
2 Jn.1 1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children
3 Jn.11 The elder unto the well beloved Gaius

We see that apostles are also elders in the body, and elders are not the pastors staff.

The apostle Paul was very concerned  about the churches being corrupted by the leaven of sin, the leaven of adding the law, and the corruption of the gospel by those who were deceived by hidden motives such as personal gain, prestige, and personal success.
 2 Corinthians 11:13 -
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

What was Paul, a real apostle,  talking about? The phrase "for such" refers to something Christians, who called "themselves" apostles,  were doing.  So let us explore the ministry and manner of those "such" Paul referred to:

"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him".

"
But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion (opportunity) from them which desire occasion (opportunity); that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness
;

20 For ye allow, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face.
21 I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak...
22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.
23
Are they ministers of Christ?
"For yourselves know how you ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you: Neither did we eat any man's bread for naught; but wrought with labor and travail NIGHT AND DAY, that we might not be chargeable to any man.
Not because we have not power, but to MAKE OURSELVES AN EXAMPLE UNTO YOU TO FOLLOW US" (II Thes. 3:7-9).

One morning as my wife and I read the warnings given in 2Cor. 11,  we said "THEY OUGHT TO TEACH THIS IN CHURCH!"
-when we realized Paul's life and ministry was a role model for the guys behind the pulpit.
In todays non-judgemental/ non-discerning church, the wolves of Christianity need not even put on a sheep-mask.

Paul's manner of ministry as an example:

2Cor. 11: 7 " Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?"
"For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for LABOURING NIGHT AND DAY, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the Gospel of God" (I Thes. 2:9).

Paul could work "night and day" and "preach the Gospel of God" at the same time.
As Paul ministered in Corinth:

"And because he was of the same craft [trade], he abode with them, and wrought [worked]: for by their occupation they were tentmakers" (Acts 18:3).

"I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.  (no tithes either
Yea, ye [all of you ministers]  yourselves know, that these hands (Paul's) have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
I have showed you all  (the ministers)  things how that so labouring ye (ministers) ought to support the weak,
and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:33-31).

"For I think that God has set forth us the apostles last, ..Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
And labor, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

Not exactly a glorious picture of the flashy, Italian suited center stage orator, is it?

To make note of a few points here to look for from Pauls "for such" and "themselves",  we have:

1.
They transform themselves into apostles
Here's a clue: "themselves"  and "such" usually attach the title "APOSTLE" to their name!  Paul did not.
When I did a search at bible.com KJV it returned this: "Apostle Paul" was not found in the new testament.
-And never is any woman ever named or called an apostle, co-apostle, or even apostlette.

The same went for ANY of the other Biblical apostles. HELLO?  As soon as they attach the title "Apostle" to their name, they probably become a false one.

The titles "Pastor",  "Prophet" and "Apostle" attached to the FRONT of any man's name are also non-existent in scripture.

 2. "preacheth another Jesus":
You mean there is a DIFFERENT Jesus presented by the "such"?
Well, well, we have Jesus presented these days as a Jesus who accepts everything and everybody that doesn't care what you do or believe as long as you "accept Him as your personal saviour".  Some preachers tell you Jesus was rich and wealthy and He wants you to be too!

3. -  "if ye receive another spirit" from these fellows.
Yes there are other spirits imparted by these false workers (and usually for the price of admission to their meetings).

4. "another gospel":   ANOTHER gospel???
Another death, burial, and resurrection of Christ?  Paul said cursed were those who went to Galatia with "another gospel" OTHER than the one Paul brought.
There are more "another gospels" shlepping around than you might imagine.

The other gospel Paul referred to in Galatians had to do with bringing gentiles under OT laws such as circumcision, tithing, and sabbath keeping.

What about the old "accept Christ as your personal saviour " invitation with "head bowed, eyes closed", "ask Jesus into your heart", raise your hand gospel?  Can you find those words in scripture?

5. They charge for their gospel.

Holy cow mama!  Can you say "merchants of Babylon" or "house of merchandise"?
Get your CD's and DVD's, become a partner and partaker of the benefits and blessings of supporting "our ministry".  Relax with a nice cup of Starbucks purchased in the church lobby.
-you can spend a fortune buying seminars and books on how to get blessed, and some will even guarantee a "hundredfold blessing" on the "seed" you sow into some ministry.

What was that Paul told Timothy about taking the oversight of a church again?
- that's right,
"...NOT for filthy lucre's sake.."

and Peter warned:
2Peter 2:14...
having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of cursing;
15
forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing;

   "
-ooh-ouch-GRRRR" said the wolves.

Have we hired a preacher lately?
Jesus said the ministry of the gospel was thus: "FREELY ye have received, FREELY GIVE".  "Buy the tuth and SELL IT NOT" are a couple of verses that speak to the exchange of salaries and tithe money for the gospel.

Paul gave the church an example when he said in 1 Corinthians 9:18 -
What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

6.  "wherein they glory"?
Self-promotion, advertising, and marketing of Christianity is SOP: (standard operating procedure) these days.

As one "Apostle" said:
"Folks, I am REALLY GOOD at what I DO", as he advertised his Power  ..."  crusade-seminars on getting folks spiritually empowered for a $100 fee and GUARANTEE you a personal prophecy.

" for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased"---- Luke 18:14
Jesus did not practice self-promotion, even when His own family urged Him to promote His "message":

"For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world..  5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. 6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. John 7:4--6
His brethren believed in using worldly methods to further His ministry rather than faith in the Sovereign God.

7.  " if a man bring you into bondage".
The Biblical term for manmade laws, rules, and legalisms that instill fear of men and their form of religion.  This effectively overides the voice of the Shepherd as the leadership usurps the  headship of Christ.  People will obey a man rather than follow scripture, especially when the man rewards them with his approval.

8.  "if a man devour you"   By robbing the very identity and individuality of a Christian by coercing them to conform to their standards, rules, and requirements.

9.  "if a man take of you".
By demanding or manipulating you out of your resources. "SEND YOUR VERY BEST GIFT RIGHT NOW!" as repeated on one Christian "Apostle" 's    advertisement we recently received promoting ticket sales to his meetings.

Don't kid yourself, there's a whole army of well paid "ministers" coveting your gold and your silver to finance their ministry. Most television ministries are little more than highly sophisticated Hollywood-produced, "gift" collecting infomercials. EVERY appeal and begging they do for your "support", finances, and "gifts" is contrary to the gospel.

10. "if a man exalt himself"
exalt:  1.to raise in rank, honor, power, character, quality, etc.;  elevate. 2. to praise; extol.

This is common practice in the church world today, the most common form being the one man pastor having headship over most churches.
Can you think of even one verse naming a pastor as being sole authority over any church in scripture?

1Thess 1: 5 how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.

 And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit;

2:5: For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness;

6 nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

11. "Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy".
We have entire denominations who specialize in taking dominion over Christians in the name of "obey them that have the rule over you".
Do you believe that gives them the right to go beyond the scripture in controlling their congregants?

12. "For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God".
In the Strongs definitions of Biblical words,  "corrupt" means "retail", or sell for payment like the other service guys that we all hire.  You know, the lawyer, the plumber, the mechanic, the CPA.  The other guys we hire to take care of us.

Oh yes, and the entertainers that sing, act, play music, or tell jokes to make us feel good
Have we missed "Do ye look on things after the outward appearance?" -2Cor. 10:7.
WHO benefits from those cameras, lights, and stages? The career ministers or the people we are called to minister to?

Seriously folks, does the Word of God really need a TV camera to spread the gospel? Maybe we could ask a Chinese Christian as there are about 100 million of them and NOT ONE of them has a TV program.  Now please, I know there are exceptions, thank God, but the majority of what is paraded across the TV screen in the name of Christianity is more show than gospel.

For some interesting reading about the church in China, read this article on the web at http://www.indehuizen.nl/page.php?id=154

Now let's see how Paul performed as an apostle:
1.  "And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved."  -It sounds like Paul gladly was totaly sacrificial of himself. No jet, no mansions, no celebrity status.

2 .  "Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? 18 I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a *gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?"
*gain= covetous, defraud, take advantage of for personal benefit

3. Paul never referred to himself as "Apostle Paul..."

4. Paul did not seek glory in the eyes of men, in fact he said he was abased.

"Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you"
2Cor 10:1
Who is being glorified by the elaborate lighting, television cameras, fine clothing, eye-appealing platform and stage?
1Thess. 2:5-6, "For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness;  nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

5. Paul never took or sought tithes from any church or saint
Now there's an example for you aspiring preachers out there.

6. Paul was careful NOT to exalt himself
2 Corinthians 12:7 - "And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

7. Paul's preaching:
1 Corinthians 2:4 - "
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
Paul walked in the power of the gospel, when he was bit by a viper he did not go to the Emergency Room or call an ambulance.   Nor did he check into the hospital when they stoned him unconscious in Lystra:

"And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.  Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe"  Acts 14:19-20

8. Paul suffered loss:
Philippians 3:8 - Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ".
Most of the modern apostles nowadays "suffer" the gain of things; you know, a black Mercedes here, a white Jag there, a gated estate over yonder. A jet or two.   A dark sunglasses-wearing bodyguard.

9. Paul worked to perfect the saints
Colossians 1:28
- Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:  Perfect meaning mature in Christ, complete.
Paul lived out this completeness he spoke of.

10. Paul spoke God's Word
He quoted scripture throughout his letters, used phrases like "according to the scriptures", "by the scriptures", "as the scriptures saith", "as it is written", "for it is written",  "according as it is written",  "they are written", over and over again.
God's Word flowed out of him as Jesus said the "rivers of living waters" would for those who believed as the scripture hath said.

11. 1 Corinthians 9:18 - What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel
Does that mean  there is a possibility some doing the opposite? -making the gospel for a "charge" and "abusing" the power of the gospel?  Did you notice Paul said his reward was NOT getting paid for his ministry? !!!

Paul was the apostle we know the most about, as he wrote the bulk of the New Testament. As such, he is a role model for those who desire especially the ministry of an apostle.

Here is what he says "Therefore I beseech you, BE YE FOLLOWERS OF ME" (I Cor. 4:9-16)
Paul was not telling them to just believe in Christ and go on with your life, was he?
He mentioned a few things about his ministry here in 2Cor 11:23

Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches."

There is the testimony of a real apostle and servant of Christ.
